Abstract
The present study deals with the complexation properties of Guaifenesin with two types of acceptors: σ-acceptor (i.e., iodine) and π-acceptors (i.e., dichlorodicyanobenzoquinone, chloranil and picric acid). All the prepared complexes were characterized stoichiometrically and structurally using various spectral techniques, as well as elemental analyses. Thermal decomposition behavior of complexes was studied, and their thermodynamic parameters were calculated using Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzger equations. It has been found that the complexation with PA and CHL acceptors increases the values of enthalpy and entropy, while the complexation with DDQ and iodine acceptors decreases the values of these parameters compared with the free GU donor.
