Abstract
In this paper, a class of locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type V spacetime is considered. By performing an appropriate transformation of the considered metric, a classification via Ricci collineations is obtained for both degenerate and non-degenerate cases of its Ricci tensor. Explicit forms of the metrics arising from the classification scheme are presented. It is shown that a perfect fluid solution of Einstein's field equations for the transformed metric is admitted only when the metric coefficient is constant. This solution, however, is not supported by ordinary matter as it violates the energy conditions.
