Abstract
Treating wheat seed with both ‘Ceresan’ and drazoxolon markedly reduced damping-off by
Fusarium culmorum (W. G. Smith) Sacc. and both inhibited the fungus in vitro. Aldrin also decreased damping-off when applied to soil but had no effect on
F. culmorum in vitro. Colonization by
F. culmorum of roots from seed treated with ‘Ceresan’ was less rapid than that of roots from untreated seed, but the rate of colonization of roots grown in aldrin-treated soil was not noticeably different within 9 days of sowing the seed. Homogenates of roots grown from ‘Ceresan’-treated seed inhibited
F. culmorum in vitro but homogenates of roots from seed treated with drazoxolon and of roots grown in aldrintreated sand did not.
