The case of Kenneth Neville, a 22-year-old male patient with rumination syndrome, raises the question whether general practitioners and medical students should be taught about functional esophageal disorders. It is more important, however, to highlight common grounds for functional disorders, whatever organ they affect, and what differentiates them from pathological conditions.
