Abstract

The sources and major environmental pathways of important primary and secondary air pollutants are reviewed, and typical concentrations in background, polluted outdoor, and indoor air defined. Indoor/outdoor concentration relationships indicate that pollutant levels outdoors are normally lower than those indoors, due to enhanced deposition processes in the indoor environment. The converse is found where a major source of pollutants is present indoors.
