Abstract
Byline: S.M.H. Darwish Risering is a process designed to prevent the formation of shrinkage voids in a casting upon solidification. To produce a sound casting, the riser or reservoir of liquid metal which is to compensate for the shrinkage must satisfy two independent requirements. The first of which is concerned with the riser size, which is to supply liquid metal to feed the casting shrinkage. The second is concerned with the riser placement which must be determined according to the feeding resistance of the cast alloy. In the present work, the process of riser design and placement has been automated. This approach is designed to replace the cumbersome and time consuming data preparation and lengthy output.
