Abstract
Ethoxylated surfactants with different ethylene oxide units were synthesized and characterized using FTIR and (HNMR)-H-1 spectroscopy. The prepared compounds were evaluated as retarders towards the production of H-2 gas during the corrosion of Zn in 0.5 M HCl. Different chemical and electrochemical techniques were used. The surface coverage and the inhibition efficiency was found to depend on the surfactant type and its concentration. The inhibition effect was related to the adsorption process, according to Freundlich model. The E-log i curves proved that the used surfactants acted as mixed-type inhibitors. Some thermodynamic and kinetics parameters were deduced and discussed. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
