The non-toxic magnetic CuFe2O4 nanoparticles have been synthesized, characterized, and used as an efficient catalyst for synthesis of new derivatives for 1,2,4,5-tetrasubstituted imidazoles in excellent yields. The synthesized compounds work-up easy and purification of products are performed without chromatographic methods. The catalyst can be recovered for the subsequent reactions and reused without any appreciable loss. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
