Abstract
The aim of the authors study was to examine the retrospective serologic data on both renal transplant recipients and their donors with respect to the incidence of previous serologically defined cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in these two groups, and using this to examine the relationship between donor and recipient previous CMV infections, graft survivals, and recipient CMV infection rates posttransplantation and mortality due to CMV. Further, the authors also wished to examine whether alteration of the immunosuppressive regimen from azathioprine and steroids (Aza) to cyclosporine-A (CsA) plus or minus steroids had any influence on these factors.
