Abstract
A statistical study of 1506 anal and perianal suppurations seen over a 13-year period is reported. These suppurations were found to account for one half of all proctologic diseases, with anal fistula as the most common form (74.1%), followed by anal fissure infection (11.4%). The most common independent suppurations of the anus and rectum (11.89%) were pilonidal sinus (5.9%) and Verneuil disease (2.5%). Anal and perianal suppurations due to regional ileitis (1.7% and tuberculosis (1.2%) were not exceptional.
