Abstract
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has many historical sites that are considered to be economic resources for investment in the post-oil era. However, many historical sites and trails are subject to urban decline or the loss of some of their features due to neglect or the influence of natural factors. The Kingdom's Vision 2030 focuses on adopting many strategic initiatives and directions to support the tourism and national heritage sector, thus contributing to highlighting the cultural, historical and civilizational dimension. 'Darb Zubayda' (the Kufi pilgrimage path) is one of the seven most important historical trails in the Arabian Peninsula, that are over 1,000 years old, and is one of the candidate UNSCO sites. This paper aims to detect the spatial data of 'Darb Zubayda' as a historical landmark in the Arabian Peninsula, through the use of GIS. The paper relied on a descriptive and historical approach to ascertain the spatial data of the historical trail. The paper defines 'Darb Zubayda' within an electronic platform that includes the main and subsidiary historical stations. This could benefit government agencies related to tourism and urban heritage. Finally, the paper recommends the adoption of a national strategy to preserve historical trails in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, within the framework of Kingdom's 2030 vision for supporting the tourism and national heritage sector.
