Abstract
A design technique for trickle irrigation lateral pipes is presented in this paper. It considers all minor losses including those in emitter connections. The technique satisfies irrigation requirements together with a high level of distribution uniformity. The results of an experimental study on the effect of emitter barb loss for different size emitters are analyzed and considered in the technique. Two simple, but accurate computer programs for designing either the diameter or the length of lateral are provided. In the programs individual emitters are considered and calculations are carried out stepwise. The results of two practical numerical examples show that, in some cases, neglecting emitter connection losses may lead to designs in error by 30%.
