Abstract
This article presents a microwave system to detect salt and sugar content in water using microstrip technology. The presented technology consists of a microstrip patch antenna which involves a tuning fork-shaped patch and slotted partial ground plane. The antenna is printed on Rogers RT/duroid 5880 material with a thickness of 1.57 mm. The antenna has a compact physical size of 24 mm x 18 mm. Being used as a sensor the microstrip antenna detect the salt and sugar in water in terms of the reflection coefficient. The percentage of salt and sugar in water changes the dielectric properties which also change the reflection coefficients. In the practical experiments, the reflection coefficient decreases with the increment of the percentage of salt and sugar in water.
