Abstract
Elemental analysis of waste samples collected from steel products manufacturing plant (SPS) located at industrial city of Jeddah, Saudi-Arabia has been carried out using Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). The 1064 nm laser radiations from a Nd:YAG laser at an irradiance of 7.6 x 10(10) W cm(-2) were used. Atomic emission spectra of the elements present in the waste samples were recorded in the 200 - 620 nm region. Elements such as Fe, W, Ti, Al, Mg, Ca, S, Mn, and Na were detected in these samples. Quantitative determination of the elemental concentration was obtained for these metals against certified standard samples. Parametric dependences of LIBS signal intensity on incident laser energy and time delay between the laser pulse and data acquisition system were also carried out.
