Abstract
Recently, nitrite has been implicated with many health complications including cancer and oxygen-deficiency in blood when its permissible limit is exceeded. Hence, there is need for its detection and monitoring for human health protection. Therefore, this study explored La2CuO4 nanoparticles for detection of nitrite in various matrices. La2CuO4 nanoparticles were prepared by wet-chemical method, and its formation was confirmed and characterized in terms of morphological, structural, optical and electrochemical properties by FE-SEM, XRD, FTIR, UV and EIS respectively. Application of the prepared La2CuO4 in detection of nitrite by coating on GCE was explored with differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) technique. La2CuO4 modified GCE displayed enhanced conductance and electro-catalytic activity towards nitrite detection by comparing to bare GCE. The modified GCE displayed lower limit of detection (0.04 mu M, S/N = 3) were 105%, 101%, 98% and 101% respectively. This values show the efficiency of La2CuO4 nanoparticles for use in real environmental and food samples.
