Abstract
Disposition kinetics of long-acting oxytetracycline were determined after an intravenous dose of 5 mg/kg body weight in 6 camels. The peak plasma concentration was 10.2 mug/ml +/- 0.71 and occurred at 5 minutes. The drug plasma levels shared a characteristic peak and trough profiles as well as biphasic elimination with half-lives of 8.1 minutes and 46.1 hours indicating exclusive distribution and substantial storage which were consistent with oxytetracycline lipophilicity and the large fat content of camel body.
