Abstract
Water hardness was determined for eight samples in Ikleem El Kharroub and twelve samples in south Lebanon. On the average Ikleem El Kharroub samples have greater hardness than South Lebanon samples. The samples are ranging from slightly hard to very hard. The calcium and magnesium concentrations are lower than the upper permissible limit of the world health organisation (WHO) for drinking water. Dissolved oxygen measurements have been carried for thirteen samples from Ikleem El Kharroub and South Lebanon. The Ikleem samples ranges from 4 to 7 ppm, reflecting polluted water. The South Lebanon samples range within 7-11 ppm reflecting unpolluted water. Factors affecting the dissolved oxygen level in surface water are discussed.
