A reaction of equimolar equivalents of 2-naphthaldehyde (1) and 1-(5-methyl-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)ethan-1-one (2) in ethanolic sodium hydroxide at 20 degrees C for 4 h gave (E)-1-(5-methyl-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)-3-(naphthalen-2-yl)prop-2-en-1-one (3) in 92% yield. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction were used to establish the structure of 3.
