Abstract
An experiment was conducted for 9 weeks to determine the effect of feed withdrawal time on the performance and livability of 64 week-old Single Comb White Leghorn layers housed in floor pens and exposed to high environmental temperatures (32-degrees-41-degrees-C). A completely randomized design of 4 treatments was used as follows : a full-fed control, 3 hr, 7 hr and 11 hr off feeding.
Significant differences were observed in egg production and feed efficiency between treatments favouring the 11 hr off-feeding treatment. Egg weight, feed consumption, egg mass, livability, specific gravity and body weight Were not affected.
Withdrawing feed during the day in the hot climate regions may be of some benefits to the producers.
