Abstract
The corrosion of Ti-54M titanium alloy processed by hot rotary swaging and post-annealed to yield different grain sizes, in 2 M HCl solutions is reported. Two annealing temperatures of 800 C-omicron and 940 C-omicron, followed by air cooling and furnace cooling were used to give homogeneous grain structures of 1.5 and 5 mu m, respectively. It has been found that annealing the alloy at 800 C-omicron decreased the corrosion of the alloy, with respect to the hot swaged condition, through increasing its corrosion resistance and decreasing the corrosion current and corrosion rate. Increasing the annealing temperature to 940 C-omicron further decreased the corrosion of the alloy.
