Abstract
Some boro-silicate glasses containing two heavy metal oxides (BaO and Bi2O3) have been prepared. The composition of the prepared samples was selected to obey the following formula, 20%SiO2 + 54%B2O3 + 1%NiO + x%Bi2O3 + (25-x) BaO, where x = 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 mol%. The obtained solid samples were confirmed to be in a pure glassy state by applying XRD analysis. Thereafter, these glasses were studied from the electric and dielectric properties point of view and the effects of varying frequency and temperature as well as Bi2O3 content was thoroughly investigated.
It was found that, a.c. conductivity increased with the increase of both frequency and temperature. The dielectric parameters decreased with the increase of frequency while they increased with the increase of temperature. All the conductivity parameters show fluctuated trends with the variation of composition.
