Abstract
The current paper proposes an Enhanced Modified Prime Code (EMPC) with a powerful array of Pulse Position Modulation (PPM) operations in the transceiver design, to tackle the problem of Multiple Access Interference (MAI) in Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) systems. The proposed transceiver is based on MAI estimation and cancellation. Moreover; Manchester encoding is utilized for signalling the transmitted data to get more enhancements in the system performance. The performance of the proposed system is compared with other conventional prime code families to clarify its potential over the other coding techniques. The performance of both the proposed and enhanced transceiver architectures is compared with the performance of the conventional transceiver without MAI cancellation. An upper bound on the Bit-Error Rate (BER) for the proposed system is derived and compared with a lower bound on the BER from the system without cancellation. The simulation results reveal that the performance of the proposed and enhanced system is significantly improved compared with the performance of the system without cancellation.
