Abstract
This paper presents an efficient framework for performance enhancement of under-water acoustic communication systems based on pre-equalization and peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction. The PAPR reduction reduces the peak power of the acoustic orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal prior to transmission over the hydrophone to avoid nonlinearity distortion. In addition, pre-equalization is implemented to reduce the channel effect, which is severe compared to wireless counterparts. Both linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) and zero-forcing (ZF) pre-equalizers have been implemented in the proposed framework. Simulation results reveal that the ZF pre-equalizer is better as it removes the channel effect prior to any sort of noise addition.
