Abstract
Photoluminescence (PL) from thin films of a blend of poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-co-benzothiadiazole) (F8BT) and poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-co-N-(4-butylphenyl)-diphenylamine) (TFB) was studied under the influence of an applied electric field. The results show that electric field-induced quenching of photoluminescence (EFIQP) in the blend films is enhanced significantly compared to films of F8BT and TFB on their own. The enhancement of photoluminescence quenching is attributed to a facilitation of exciton dissociation due to the favourable interchain separation of electrons and holes between the two components of the blend. The PL EFIQP happens in both TFB and F8BT excited states. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V All rights reserved.
