Abstract
The emission of interface polaritons by electric dipoles is considered for dipoles embedded in photonic crystals. It is shown that in a one-dimensionally periodic photonic crystal the interface oscillations form frequency bands and, via ad·Einteraction, they provide strong relaxation channels whenever the dipole frequency Ω lies within the bands. Dipole relaxation rates are displayed for varying dipole position and also when Ω is varied for a given dipole position. Band edge effects associated with the interface modes are pointed out and discussed.
