Abstract
The effect of endosulfan on different neurotransmitters of brain was studied after a single intraperitoneal dose in male rats. The animal showed symptoms of hyperactivity, tremors and convulsions. The nor-epinephrine (NE) level in the brain stem and cerebral cortex, during first three hrs, was significantly decreased followed by a significant rise. The serotonin (5HT) content in the brain stem was significantly decreased, while it was increased in the cerebral cortex. Initially, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5 HIAA) was markedly increased followed by a significant fall. The gamma -aminobutyric acid was significantly decreased in the corpus striatum with a corresponding increase in dopamine (DA).
