Abstract
The present study is focused on the major concerns and impact on ground water and soil due to usage of treated effluents from the Ibra sewage treatment plant (ISTP) for irrigation purpose. The ground water and soil samples are collected from various farms in the vicinity of ISTP, located in one of the wilayat of Sultanate of Oman and analyzed for different parameters including pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids, turbidity, heavy metals, biological content (coliforms and E. coli) and sodium adsorption ratio (SAR). Some heavy metals and biological content in soil and ground water are higher than the Omani and WHO standards. The well water of the farms in the vicinity of the ISTP and the soil is getting contaminated due to the usage of treated effluent for irrigation.
