Abstract
In the literature approximate equations are presented to predict the steady state drawdown curves for partially penetrating artesian and gravity wells. These equations are empirical in nature and suffer from some limitations. In this paper, the 3D finite difference code, Visual MODFLOW, is used to develop mathematical equations for predicting the steady state drawdown curves of partially penetrating artesian and gravity wells. The accuracy and reliability of the developed equations are tested by comparing the predicted drawdown curves from the developed equations with the predicted drawdown curves from Visual MODFLOW and the previous equations found in the literature in the cases of single well and multiple wells. In the case of single well, good comparisons are obtained between the predicted drawdown curves by the developed equations and Visual MODFLOW. In the case of multiple wells, the developed equations can be used with a good accuracy to predict the drawdowns.
