Abstract
Experimental measurements for the hourly solar irradiance on a horizontal surface are carried out in Makkah and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A semiempirical formula to predict the hourly global solar irradiance is obtained using standard least squares fitting technique. The obtained formula coincides extremely well with experimental data recorded in Jeddah, Makkah, Sanaa (Yemen) and Hong Kong for various months of the year.
