Abstract
Introduction : In the population, there is a notable prevalence of unruptured intracranial aneurysms. These can only be detected early using high-resolution imaging modalities. A discussion of the different imaging modalities is warranted, and an intracranial aneurysm can often be fatal if left undetected. Methodology : PubMed database was used for article selection, and papers were obtained and reviewed. PubMed database was used for article selection, and the following keys terms: magnetic resonance angiography, computerized tomography angiography, digital subtraction angiography, aneurysms, imaging in cerebrovascular hemorrhage. Review : Patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage should initially be investigated by CT angiography as it is quick and accurate for the diagnosis of early hemorrhage. Further imaging by magnetic resonance angiography and digital subtraction angiography could be useful in late presentations, or to have more detailed images of CT confirmed aneurysms. Conclusion: The physician should utilize their clinical judgment of intracranial aneurysms combined with specific case presentations to decide upon the best imaging choice. The imaging modality chosen should help in identifying the aneurysm, following up unruptured aneurysms, and alerting the radiologist to any recurrence of a previously treated ruptured aneurysm.
