Abstract

Business & Economics Economics Social Sciences
Robust evidence is provided of causality between defence spending and economic growth in the case of Iraq over the period 1950 to 1980. The findings of other studies are questioned, studies that use the procedure of differencing the yearly data prior to testing for causality. This is because the differencing procedure destroys any long-run economic information, therefore such studies arrive at the wrong conclusions.
