Abstract
Different formulations of indometacin tablets were prepared. One formula was prepared using Avicel(R) and spray dried lactose. All other formulations contained polycarbophil in different concentrations. All the prepared tablets were tested for crushing strength, disintegration and their dissolution was compared to that of a marketed capsule. Polycarbophil proved to be a good disintegrant, direct compression diluent in addition to its effect on reducing indometacin induced gastric ulcers. The concentration of polycarbophil in the tablet determines the model of release.
