-Phenantroline-Zn catalyst is shown to be efficient for the multicomponent synthesis of heterocycles including highly substituted piperidines and pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidines. This system has many advantages, such as excellent level of reusability of magnetic catalysts, high yields, simplicity of separation of catalysts using an external magnet, environmental benignity and ease of handling. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first report on the utilization of zinc nanomagnetic catalyst for the multicomponent synthesis of highly substituted piperidines.
