Abstract
A straightforward and efficient method has been developed for the solvent-free synthesis of 2,4-diphenylquinolines via a one-pot reaction of anilines, benzaldehydes, and phenylacetylenes promoted by FeCl3 under solvent-free mechanochemical ball milling. Using this protocol, a series of 2,4-diphenylquinolines were synthesized in good to excellent yield (74-95%) just by washing the resulting reaction mixture with water and recrystallizing in EtOH/H2O without any extraction or column chromatography work-up.
