Abstract
Based on the current understanding of the importance of food and nutrition education for children in Brazil, this study was developed to understand how this education contributes to the health of children. To this end, a systematic review of the literature was carried out through a search for studies published in English, Portuguese and Spanish between January 1, 2015 and June 1, 2019. We identified seven articles after application of the following exclusion criteria: studies that did not fit into the chosen theme and foreign studies. The review identified gaps that probably result from the lack of monitoring conducted by associations or regulatory bodies of food and nutrition education of students and their school performance in the recent years, despite being one of the main objectives of public policies in Brazil. The findings of this systematic review can also motivate legislators to develop a national level institutional mechanisms and incentives more in line with the conditions currently experienced by families, especially those of low schooling and income - a population in which the studies have demonstrated the greatest difficulties in the implementation of healthy eating practices.
