Abstract
This study offers a general view at concepts, algorithms and practice of Granular Computing a. paradigm of representing and processing information granules being regarded as a generic vehicle to deal with abstract entities of well-defined semantics. The objective here is to discuss the diversity of underlying formalisms Granular Computing while emphasizing a unique way of processing realized in this framework. Some fundamental representation problems of Granular Computing are discussed and selected categories of design techniques supporting a formation of information granules are presented. Direct applications of Granular Computing to system modeling are elaborated on as well.
