Abstract
In present study, the hepatoprotective and antioxidant activity of ethyl acetate extract of Mollugo nudicaulis whole plant (EAMN) was evaluated against paracetamol induced hepatic damage in rats. The extract at dose of 50 and 100 mg/kg were administered orally once daily up to 14 days. The substantially elevated serum enzymatic levels of serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT), serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), serum alkaline phosphatase (SALP) and total bilirubin (TBIL), total protein (TP), albumin and globulin were restored towards normalization significantly (P<0.05) at higher dose level (100mg/kg). Silymarin was used as reference standard hepatoprotective drug. The biochemical observations were supplemented with histopathological examination of rat liver sections. The results of this study strongly indicate that M. nudicaulis have potent hepatoprotective action against paracetamol induced hepatic damage in rats. Meanwhile, in-vivo antioxidant activities were also screened which were positive for both doses of EAMN. This
