Abstract
A comparative study of homogeneous nucleation in supersaturated vapors of CH3NO2, C6H5NO2, CH3CN, and C6H5CN was carried out to determine the values of critical supersaturation (Sc) required for the homogeneous nucleation of molecules of this series. At T(r) = 0.44, the experimental Sc values were higher than the predicted Sc values by 20 percent for CH3NO2, 57 percent for C2H5NO2, 50 percent for CH3CN, and 112 percent for C6H5CN. This trend correlates well with the dipole moments and (to a lesser extent) with the polarizabilities of these molecules. (I.S.)
