The most common fluorine-bearing minerals which constitute the natural source for fluoride in drinking water are fluorite, apatite, rock phosphate and topaz. The epidemiologic prevalence of endemic fluorosis is directly related to the distribution of fluoride-bearing minerals in the various endemic areas.
