Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of the addition of selected transition elements (Fe, Ni, Co and Zn) and Cu on the catalytic activity of PtSn/gamma-Al2O3 system for the propane dehydrogenation. Among studied catalysts, prepared by co-impregnation, both Fe and Ni were not suitable as promoters in comparison to Zn and Co which has significantly enhanced the catalytic activity of PtSn/gamma-Al2O3 system. The catalytic performance of the promoted samples is in following decreasing order of 0.5Pt0.5Sn0.5Zn/gamma-Al2O3 > 0.5Pt0.5Sn0.5Co/gamma-Al2O3 > 0.5Pt0.5Sn0.5Fe/gamma-Al2O3 > 0.5Pt0.5Sn0.5Ni/gamma-Al2O3. Upon the addition of Cu, as co-promoter, to 0.5Pt0.5Sn0.5Zn/gamma-Al2O3, all studied aspects of catalytic performance were significantly improved. The positive effect was attributed to the changes of the number of acidic sites in PtSn/gamma-Al2O3 system.
