Abstract
The identification is reported of the C (sub 27) , C (sub 28) and C (sub 29) members of the C (sub 27) steroid family in marl from the Miocene Northern Apennines, Perticara Basin, Italy, carbonaceous marl of the Miocene Monterey formation, Naples Beach, USA, the Jurassic Calcaires en plaquettes formation, France, and from petroleum originating in the NW part of Utah, USA. The C (sub 27) to C (sub 29) , 4alpha , 7alpha -epithio-5beta steroids may have been derived from incorporation of S into the early diagenetic products of Delta (super 5,7) -sterols, and are indicative of their production in the depositional environment of the immature S-rich sediments and the immature S-rich oil.
