Abstract
PM-355 polymeric films were used in different fields and have been used in a lot of applications. PM-355 films have been bombarded by alpha-particles with different fluences using Am-241 source. The surface structure and morphology have been studied by X-ray diffraction technique (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), surface roughness testing, and scanning electron microscope. As well, the optical parameters have been investigated by UV/Vis and photoluminescence spectroscopies. XRD patterns exhibited that a gradual increase in the integral intensities with increasing the alpha-fluences. This means that an increase in ordering and reduction in the amorphous phase. FTIR results showed that significant changes in the band intensities of the irradiated films. The surface roughness parameters and the surface morphology displayed an enhancement in the bombarded surface films. The UV/Vis and photoluminescence measurements demonstrate that motivated modifications are obtained in the optical properties in the bombarded films. Considerable amendments in the structural and optical properties were acquired by alpha-particles irradiation.
