Abstract
A boundary-layer analysis is presented to investigate the surface radiation effects on the natural convection flow of a dusty particulate suspension past a vertical wavy surface. To express the contribution of surface radiative heat flux, the Stefan-Boltzmann law is employed in the boundary conditions of the particulate suspension problem. The governing equations are simulated numerically by using a two-point implicit finite difference scheme. For the validation of the code, results are compared with the benchmark solutions and are found in good agreement. The influence of surface radiation on water/particulate suspension is established through parametric study. The surface radiation parameter R and radiative length parameter lambda decrease the magnitude of the skin-friction coefficient and dimensionless heat-transfer rate (Nusselt number). The amplitude of the harmonic oscillations decays with R and lambda. The momentum and thermal boundary-layer thicknesses reduce considerably when more particles are added into the base fluid.
