Abstract
The object of the present paper is to investigate the surface waves in an inhomogeneous orthotropic medium, under the influence of the gravity field and rotation. The theory of generalized surface waves has firstly been developed and then it has been employed to investigate particular cases of waves, viz. Stoneley waves under the influence of the gravity field and the rotation. The wave velocity equation have been obtained for different cases and are in well agreement with the corresponding classical results, when the effect of rotation and gravity as well as non-homogeneity of the material are ignored. The wave velocity is calculated as a function of the frequency. The results indicate that the effect of orthotropic on such waves is small, while the effect of the gravity, rotation and non-homogeneity are very pronounced.
