Abstract
An integrated water management plan is proposed taking into account all relevant water assets of Eastern Sudan. The plans include combined actions of water transfer, use of surface supplies in the south at the times of excess flood water, recharging groundwater in selected basins, blending supplies from different sources, alternating sources of groundwater production, changing demand, developing groundwater banking programs, and implementation of wastewater infrastructures. Specific projects are proposed in order to face these challenges for Port Sudan and Gadaref. Alternative financing methods, including regional and local funding, are suggested.
