Abstract
Jose Manuel Prieto (Havana, 1962) is an essayist and translator, as well as the author of several novels, including Livadia (1999; Nocturnal Butterflies of the Russian Empire, 2000) and Rex (2007; Rex, 2009). The recipient of a Guggenheim award, he has taught at Princeton and Cornell. He currently lives in New York, where he has just finished his latest novel, Voz humana (Human Voice).
Jason Weiss has translated Cuban, Argentine, Peruvian, Mexican, and French writers for books, anthologies, and this magazine.
