Abstract
Sensitive kinetic spectrophotometric method is used for the determination of alfuzosin HCl in bulk and in its pharmaceutical preparations using FeCl3/ferricyanide system. The method is based upon a kinetic investigation of the oxidation reaction of the drug with iron (III) and a subsequent chelation of the produced iron (II) with ferricyanide to form turn bull's blue colored product. The spectrophotometric measurements were recorded by measuring the absorbance at 790 nm, at fixed time of 15 min at room temperature. The different experimental and kinetic parameters were carefully studied and the reaction was found to be pseudo first order with respect to alfuzosin HCl. Then, the fixed time method was used for the determination of alfuzosin HCl over the concentration range of 0.4 - 4.0 mu g mL(-1). The method was successfully applied for the determination of this drug in its tablets. The proposed method was compared with reference methods and was found to be equally accurate and precise.
