Abstract
Pulmonary surfactant was collected from the lungs of 20 adult and 14 young male camels after slaughtering. It was analysed for total lipids, phospholipid, cholesterol and triacylglycerol which was found to be significantly higher in adult camels.
Phospholipids fractions were studied by HPLC. PG. PI, PE, PS, DPPC, and SPH were present in the surfactant of young and adult camels albeit in different concentrations. DPPC was the most abundant phospholipid fraction constituting 77.24% in young and 53% in adult camels.
