Abstract
The authors observed early deterioration in renal function in hepatic transplant recipients started on Cyclosporin A soon after transplantation, but long-term effect of Cyclosporin A on patients' own kidneys has not previously been studied. In four patients followed for nine months there was a trend for serum creatinine to rise and serum bicarbonate to fall, but the results were not statistically significant. One patient was changed to conventional therapy because of nephrotoxicity and renal function returned to normal.
