1) After reflection at the evanescent wave mirror, the atomic velocity distribution gives access to the modifications of the fluorescence rate close to the turning point distance. 2) Taking into account evanescent light scattered at the dielectric surface, the mirror allows for specular reflection only if the surface is flat at the scale of the atomic wavelength.
